Annual Weekend Schedule

Commencement is held on the 3rd Monday in May each year. Events scheduled on the preceding Friday, Saturday and Sunday remain the same from year to year, though times and locations may change. Below is a list of our annual Commencement Weekend events:

Commencement Weekend Friday

  • Senior So Dear cocktail social for undergraduate students, Reynolda Campus

There are no other University sponsored events for students on Commencement Weekend Friday. You may speak with your program and student organization leaders to inquire about any additional events they may organize and host.

Commencement Weekend Saturday

  • Legacy Graduate Luncheon for Alumni Families, alumni families and their graduating students may contact the Office of Alumni Engagement, Reynolda Campus
  • WFU Graduate School of Arts & Sciences Hooding Ceremony for students graduating from programs in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and their guests, Reynolda Campus
  • WFU School of Divinity Hooding Ceremony for students graduating from the WFU School of Divinity and their guests, Reynolda Campus

There are no other University sponsored events for students on Commencement Weekend Saturday. You may speak with your program and student organization leaders to inquire about any additional events they may organize and host.

Commencement Weekend Sunday

  • Baccalaureate Service, optional for students graduating from all WFU programs and their guests, Reynolda Campus
    • Baccalaureate is always held at 9 a.m. on Sunday
  • PA Program Hooding and Awards Ceremony for all students graduating from the WFU School of Medicine P.A. Program and their guests, Biotech Place, Downtown Winston-Salem
  • Baccalaureate Brunch, optional for students graduating from all WFU programs and their guests (tickets may be purchased in advance), Reynolda Campus
  • WFU School of Business Graduate Programs Hooding Ceremony for students graduating from the WFU School of Business Graduate Programs and their guests, Reynolda Campus
    • Reception to follow, Location TBD
  • WFU School of Law Hooding Ceremony for students graduating from the WFU School of Law and their guests, Reynolda Campus
    • Reception to follow, Location TBD
  • Undergraduate College Honors and Awards Ceremony for undergraduate award recipients and their guests (Graduates being recognized will receive advance notice from the appropriate departments in late Spring), Reynolda Campus
  • First in the Forest Pinning Ceremony for Magnolia Scholar graduates and their guests, Reynolda Campus
  • WFU School of Medicine, Doctor of Medicine Hooding and Awards Ceremony for all students graduating from the WFU School of Medicine M.D. Program and their guests, Biotech Place, Downtown Winston-Salem
  • Undergraduate departmental receptions are held throughout the afternoon for undergraduate students and their guests, Reynolda Campus

There are no other University sponsored events for students on Commencement Weekend Sunday. You may speak with your program and student organization leaders to inquire about any additional events they may organize and host.

Commencement Weekend Monday

  • Commencement Breakfast, optional for students graduating from all WFU programs and their guests (tickets may be purchased in advance), Reynolda Campus
    • Commencement Breakfast is always held from 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. on Monday
  • Commencement Ceremony for all students graduating from all Wake Forest University programs and their guests, Reynolda Campus (severe weather location: LJVM Coliseum)
    • Commencement is always held at 9 a.m. on Monday
  • Transmigration of Professional School Graduates will occur at approximately 10:30 a.m.
    • Professional school graduates will stand to be recognized and will transmigrate, guided by marshals, to another TBD location for diploma distribution and receptions. Their guests will follow.
  • Undergraduate Diploma Distribution will begin immediately after Transmigration at approximately 10:45 a.m.
    • Undergraduate students and their guests will remain seated while graduate students transmigrate and leave the ceremony, and the Commencement ceremony will continue in the same location for Undergraduate Diploma Distribution.

Undergraduate students and their guests should plan for the ceremony to last until 1 p.m. and should take into account additional time for students who wish to gather with friends after the ceremony and for traffic delays as graduates and guests leave the event.
